02 Jun Maria & Charlie | Governor Thomas Bennett House
We can’t help but get all warm and mushy when couples travel from near and far to begin their marriages in our beloved city. Especially when the proposals have already set such a high standard. Take Maria and Charlie, who popped the question on a cliff in Ireland, no less. Pretty much from that point on, they said, they knew they wanted to treat their loved ones to a beautiful weekend in Charleston to celebrate their wedding. The St. Louis-based couple enlisted the talents of local-to-them Midwestern wedding designer Kate & Company and headed to The Governor Thomas Bennett House to say “I do.” The outdoor ceremony in the side garden of the historic venue featured bundles of olive branches tied to the aisle chairs, a troop of precious flower girls (with adorable ribbon sashes), and bridesmaids in eggplant-hued gowns—a perfect shade for their bouquets of blush, peach, and burgundy. Maria said she had always dreamed of an outdoor reception under strands of lights and beneath the limbs of grand oak trees, and goodness, did The Governor Thomas Bennett House’s garden deliver. Guests were treated to Southern fare from Salthouse Catering and hummingbird cake (an office favorite, btw) from Ashley Bakery to round out their Lowcountry experience. From top to bottom this colorful affair brims in prettiness that is sure to keep us inspired all weekend long. A big thanks to Clay Austin Photography for sharing this wedding with us to enjoy and a big hooray for Maria and Charlie!
