Spring Island sits just south of Beaufort, South Carolina, and plays host to some of the most stunning weddings that have ever come across our desks. And just when we thought we knew about most of the Lowcountry’s secret spots to say “I do,” Kathryn and Josh shared a new-to-us gem that you’ve got to hear about. The couple, who first met on a boat outing with mutual friends and reconnected years later when they were both single, live in Charleston and wanted to wed in a meaningful location. “My grandparents live on Spring Island,” says Kathryn, “and it was my childhood dream to have my wedding at the St. Francis statue.” Turns out that the one-time owner of the island wanted a chapel on the property—an outdoor chapel, befitting the patron saint of animals. So on a beautiful fall afternoon, Kathryn and Josh exchanged vows in the shadow of the bronze sculpture. Also joining the two that day? Aside from friends and family, their two dogs.
