02 Aug Jen & Kyle | Boone Hall Plantation
Ooey, gooey, and cheesy. Not the most romantic of three words when describing a first date but so it went for California couple Jen and Kyle. The two singles noticed one another at a volunteer orientation one night and Kyle, without delay, asked little Jen (she’s just five feet tall) out. “He invited me to have grilled cheese and wine, which won me over immediately,” laughs Jen. (You and us both.) A year and a half later, while on safari in South Africa, Kyle proposed with the giraffes and elephants as onlookers and asked his gal to be his adventure partner forever. As the pair had relocated to Charleston at this point so that Kyle could attend law school, Boone Hall Plantation became the object of their affection for choice of venue as well as an over-the-top pink velvet couch they spied at the Ooh! Events furniture warehouse. While Jen went ga-ga over the girly piece, Kyle was less enthralled, so the duo decided together that their wedding should be a mix of masculine and feminine. Look at them making decisions as a couple … too cute. This translated to greenery galore, a “his and hers” signature cocktail featuring their beloved pugs, and a dinner menu that featured both fancy items and more fun fare (um, pizza). And while the reception was ballin’, we can’t skip over the sentimental ceremony. Jen, who lost her parents young, was gifted a locket by the mother figure in her life, and walked down the aisle, arm and arm, with her sister. “I feel like I had a piece of my parents with me,” she says. Ok, we’re not crying, you’re crying. Cheers to these newlyweds who deserve all the happiness in the world.
