22 May Hannah & Brad | Alhambra Hall
“I’m from right here in Charleston,” says bride Hannah, “and Brad is from Foxboro, Massachusetts, not too far from Boston. We both went to Hartwick College, a small school in upstate New York, and we had a class together freshman year. Even though Brad doesn’t remember seeing me, I had such a crush on him!” A year later the two finally met while out at a bar and have been inseparable ever since. One frigid January day a few years later, the pair had trudged through the snow and ice on the shore of Scarborough Beach in Maine, and Brad got down on one knee to ask Hannah to become his wife. Thawing things out a bit, the couple said their “I do’s” at Alhambra Hall here in the Old Village. Oh, and about those tiny pineapple boutonnieres? Those were inspired by an Instagram post from Faith Teasley, and prompted a full-on pineapple theme. If you’re wondering about how Charleston adopted the pineapple, a longtime symbol of hospitality, listen up. Apparently in colonial times, when a captain returned home from a voyage, he would spear a pineapple on his fence post to let friends and neighbors know that they had returned home safely, says photographer Nicole of Ava Moore Photography. “This was also a sign that a celebration would happen that night,” says Nicole. “I think Hannah and Brad’s wedding was definitely a cause for celebration.” Scroll on to take a look at the gorgeous soirée that Simply Eventful Charleston designed.
