29 Aug Amanda & Sean | The Historic Rice Mill
Amanda and Sean crossed paths while they were completing their radiology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Although their relationship was put on hold in the beginning (it’s a tad complicated when you work together, you know), the two got engaged a year and a half into their courtship. The duo snuck up to the top of the Wentworth Mansion, which overlooked downtown Charleston, and through rain and clouds, Sean popped the question to his leading lady. And although neither grew up in the Lowcountry (she hails from Illinois and he from Colorado), the docs had always envisioned a waterfront ceremony in the Holy City surrounded by their closest friends and family, but maybe not the casual bystander—wait for it. During the ceremony, an unexpected guest from the bar across the street appeared in the window, photobombing a few ceremony snaps in his tipsy state of mind. “Thank goodness we had no idea,” Amanda says, “but our guests sure got a laugh!” As for their lovely reception? Good Food Catering paired Southern favorites like shrimp and grits—um, delish—with bacon wrapped scallops and sweet potatoes. And while the couple didn’t save the top tier of their wedding cake (“We didn’t think it would survive the drive back to our home in San Francisco,” says Amanda) they have plans to return to Charleston on an anniversary trip to grab a slice of cake from Bakies. Scroll on for all of the gorgeous imagery from our friend, Rachel Craig.
