Jess and Kevin came this close to missing out on their marriage. How? She’d overbooked her weekend by moving apartments and saying she’d visit an old friend for a summer concert all at the same time. She tried to bail, but for some reason just couldn’t—and it’s a good thing she didn’t. When she met her friend’s roommate, Kevin, they both say was love at first sight. In days, they were an item; in six months, she’d moved to New York City to be nearer to him; and five years later, when they both were in Saratoga Springs, New York, for a weekend getaway with his family, Kevin proposed. “I thought he was kidding,” Jess says, “because he had done a few joke proposals in the weeks prior, but he definitely wasn’t joking that time.” The two chose Lowndes Grove Plantation for their nuptials as they were both smitten with the Lowcountry, what with her having grown up vacationing at the Isle of Palms and him having gone to a wedding here.
