Katherine Ann and Dalton met at Clemson and dated long-distance until he proposed on Daniel Island while they were visiting her parents. Here are some of the highlights from their time together and their Big Day. Enjoy!
TWR: Let’s hear about this proposal. We want to know everything …
Katherine Ann: We were going to dinner with my parents at Harry’s at Daniel Island Club. But when we got to the restaurant they said our table wasn’t ready so my parents suggested that we go outside to wait. When we got outside, Dalton asked me if I wanted to walk down to the little wooden bridge behind the club, the one that looks out over the marsh. He was a little nervous so the thought crossed my mind that maybe this could (finally) be proposal time. And sure enough, when we reached the bridge, there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers sitting on a little table, where Dalton dropped to one knee, held out a Croghan’s box, and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said “Yes” and couldn’t have been more excited. We turned around to walk back and I saw a photographer peeping out of the brush, and our families and friends coming out of hiding as well. Everyone was clapping and cheering for us. We kept the celebration going for a couple of hours out on the lawn with the help of everyone at Daniel Island Club!
TWR: You had an adorable buffet just for the little ones…where did that idea come from?
Katherine Ann: I come from a large family and have lots of little cousins. We wanted them all to come to the wedding and reception so that it would truly be a family event. (We have always vacationed as a family with all my cousins and I am very close to them.) We thought it would be a nice touch to make the little ones feel welcome if we had a kid’s size buffet table just for them; we stocked the buffet with kid-friendly food and it was a hit.
TWR: Have any behind-the-scenes stories to share?
Katherine Ann: I was a really calm bride but my husband got the nickname “Groomzilla” from his groomsmen on our wedding day. Other than that, here’s one funny story: Dalton sweetly reached for my hand at our ceremony while our soloist sang. That should have been a sweet and tender moment … but I leaned over and told him my bouquet was too heavy to hold with one hand and didn’t take his hand.
TWR: Oh gosh. That’s one that would make a funny meme. What was your favorite moment?
Katherine Ann: It is hard to pick one moment but we are huge Clemson fans and had a fantastic band (Sol Fusion). As they were playing introduction music for our wedding party, they paused for a moment and then began playing Katy Perry’s song “Roar” and the Clemson Tiger came out to the lyrics “I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire ’cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar.” We had just won the National Championship in football and the Tiger gave high-fives to our guests. We gathered all the Clemson graduates and had our picture made with him and our National Championship Flag. (In keeping with our “classic” theme, the tiger wore a tuxedo shirt.)
