26 Jun Emily & Dan | Lowndes Grove Plantation
Picture this: You’re all gussied up at a swanky New Year’s Eve party with your girlfriends on the USS Yorktown when all of a sudden, you spy a cutie from across the room and cupid’s arrow strikes. You end up chatting and dancing the night away with him and even countdown to the new year together. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, that dreamy scenario played out in real life for Emily and Dan and nearly three years after they met, Dan surprised Emily with the Big Ask (you know which one we are talking ‘bout) during a hike on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland. “He handed me a napkin with a checklist for our lives: get married, see the world, have kids, live happily ever after,” says Emily, “and then he got down on one knee and proposed!” (A little backstory: On one of their first dates, they had put their heads together and made a list of activities they wanted to do–skydive, restaurant hop, paddle board, etc.) For their Charleston wedding, Emily and Dan reached out to the lovely gals at Sweetgrass Social Event + Design to help transform the space at Lowndes Grove Plantation into a celebration brimming with gorgeous shades of pinks, reds, and creams. And, since Emily wanted to incorporate their love of traveling the world into the wedding design, the table numbers at the reception were named after cities that had special significance to them both. (See more of this neat detail from Taylor Rae Photography below.) “It was truly the wedding of my dreams,” says Emily. Cheers to you both!
