06 Jun Lauren & John | Mingo Point at Kiawah Island
When Lauren met John Wesley at the PGA Tour on Kiawah Island, she was intrigued. “He was a laid-back surfer in a sea of seersucker- and bow-tie-wearing men,” says Lauren. It took awhile for the two to sync up, but once they did, they dated for six years until John Wesley invited both of their families and his beloved’s besties to Red’s Ice House on Kiawah to be there for his surprise proposal. Apparently, it was such a surprise that Lauren totally missed the big ask because she was talking to John Wesley’s grandmother, “Toot-Toot”. “I looked up and saw him on stage,” she says, “and everyone was taking pictures on their phones. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee.” For their “I do’s” on Kiawah Island Resort’s Mingo Point, the couple had one main request: that the food be Southern and really, really good. With shrimp and grits, she-crab soup, good South Carolina barbecue, and, per the groom’s request, a bacon station, they got what they hoped for and then some. Feast on the photos from Rachel Craig below and congrats to the happy couple, we wish you a lifetime of happiness … and Southern food.
