13 Jun Meg & Ken {Part Two | The Wedding}
Meg and Ken’s wedding was a family affair, filled with details that will just make you smile. Photographed by Richard Ellis Photography, this wedding celebrates the bride and groom while incorporating past generations. Meg sent us a lovely note to share her wedding inspirations…
I love the low country and no matter how far I moved away, there was something about the first whif of pluff mud that made me feel like I could finally relax. I wanted to incorporate all the wonderful things that make the low country unique in different parts of the wedding. Also, Our grandparents played a very important role in the people we are today and we wanted to make sure that their presence was felt throughout the ceremony.
Being that I was getting married in May there was a darn good possibility that it was going to be as hot as hades…so, I was so excited to find a gown that was not only simple but made of luxury taffeta as well!! (I will be donating the gown to the “Brides Against Breast Cancer” foundation in honor of my grandmother). I was able to dance all night long without passing out from a heat stroke! My veil was my something borrowed from my cousin.
The bridesmaids wore LulaKate dresses in flamingo pink dupioni silk and the flower girls were also in Lula Kate dresses in ivory dupioni silk and pink glitter shoes. The flower girls each carried sweet grass baskets of varying size and threw pink hydrangea petals. The honorary bridesmaids were asked to chose a pink dress of their style to wear. Ken’s one request was that he be able to wear a seersucker! So all of the groomsmen were dressed in tan seersucker with celery green ties.
The ceremony was held at Saint John’s Baptist Church in Pinopolis, SC with my Uncle officiating. The church was built on land donated by my great-great grandfather in the 1800’s and has been a very important part of my life for as long as I can remember. As part of the ceremony, I had four of my best friends carry bouquets, to which lockets engraved with the initials of each set of grandparents and enclosed with their pictures were laid on alter of the church in honor of our grandparents. Our recessional was made to the Hallelujah Chorus.
{LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these twinkle toes!}
The reception was held at my parent’s home in Pinopolis. My sister’s and I are the fifth generation to grow up in the house and I have dreamed about having my wedding there for most of my life. We set up a croquet court for our guests in the side yard in honor of my grandmother, who I can remember trying to teach me to play before I was taller than the stick!
Duvall catered the event and they did an incredible job! A friend of mine that is a chef in Charlotte commented that they were 4 star!! The food was top notch and you couldn’t have asked for better service. For the tables we chose bubble gum pink table cloths with white milk glasses vases filled with hydrangeas, peonies, etc. and next to the dance floor were bar tables covered in white cloths and tied with pink sashes. The cake was by Michelle Hoffman of Cake-a-licious. She also did the groom’s cake for me and they tasted as good as they looked! All in all, with most of our guests coming in from out of town we wanted to make sure that they knew how important they were to us and how glad they were able to be apart of this special day in our lives! Each guest was given a box of benne seed cookies wrapped in a box and sealed with a wax sealed “K”.
Ken and I decided to go with a live band for the reception and we are so glad that we went with “The Sneakers“!! They really knew how to get people out on the dance floor and keep them dancing! Ted did everything to try to incorporate the songs that I wanted played into his play list and even let Ken’s nephews play a couple of songs for us!!
