18 Jun Andrea & Bob {Lowndes Grove Plantation}
When I see Kim Graham’s name in my inbox, my heart goes pitter patter. I have these little love affairs when it comes to photographers. This gem of a wedding began with a ceremony at St. Luke’s Chapel officianted by a family member of the bride, a Catholic priest, who also took part in her parent’s wedding ceremony 31 years ago. The couple celebrated their reception at the elegant and luxurious Lowndes Grove.
Our wedding was a destination wedding for everyone except Bob and me. I am originally from Michigan and he from Connecticut so our friends and family were traveling some distance to be here on our wedding day. The day before the wedding we had a Welcome Party and Rehearsal Dinner for everyone at the South Carolina Aquarium.
We wanted to share the experience Lowcountry with our guests. We chose the historic setting of Lowndes Grove, the Lowcountry food and favors of mini bottles of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. Family and tradition were very important as well; Both my maternal and paternal grandparents have been married for almost 60 years. I carried an embroidered handkerchief handmade for the occasion by my maternal grandmother and the necklace I wore was handed down to me from my paternal grandmother and contains the diamond from my paternal great grandmother’s engagement ring.
We had an unseasonably cool day for October in Charleston and it was pouring rain up until about three hours before the ceremony. We managed to stay dry and everything worked out perfectly. We currently reside on Johns Island. If I had to pick my favorite “thing” from the wedding, I’d say it would have to be the flowers. Whitney {now at Branch Design Studio} and Annie did such a great job. The centerpieces were so lush and colorful and contained my favorite flowers, hydrangeas. My bouquet was truly unique and it suited me perfectly.
