25 Oct Vera Wang | New York Market Week
I LOVE my Monday day buying appointments. More of an intimate showing and presentation than the press fashion show, stores get to go in and see each dress up close and personal and learn anything and everything about the collection. I was fortunate this go around to have Corbin Gurkin meet us at the Vera Wang Headquarters and shoot detail shots of the collection while our Vera Wang rep described the insanely cool new details and design techniques introduced in the collection. Fall 2012 collection is the Witchcraft Collection. “ Light, airy, concoctions of froth….inspired by black and nude undergarments, both mysterious and sexy, frivolous and fun, with transparent wisps of carefully organized tulle.” It did NOT disappoint. This collection is so unique from anything I saw the whole market. New design techniques such as folded flange organzas, ruffled tulle, chiffon laddering, and cascading eyelash flange take these dresses to a whole new level of couture. Two-piece styles were still strong and were softened with peplums and hand painted organza details. Chantilly lace was seen more throughout the collection than in previous and still gave these edging dresses a bridal feel. A new scalloped organza technique was introduced in slimmer silhouettes as well as in ball gowns. Honeycomb tulle helped construct the dramatic skirts of dresses, washed organza detailed bodices elongating torso’s therefore aiding in easing the flow of design into trains. Every gown was fashion forward, modern and a show-stopper. I couldn’t tear myself away from leaving. I am looking forward to seeing these dresses in editorial spreads, as well as in ivory on those fashion forward brides in Charleston….I know you’re out there!
