Shireen & Timothy {The Sanctuary at Kiawah}

The Kiawah Island Club at the River Course was transformed to a culturally fused and visually stunning affair when Shireen and Timothy wed last March. The ceremony and reception were reflections of  their heritages, their families, a love for Kiawah and a celebration of each other. The bride, was kind enough to share the details of the event.

I had been going to Kiawah for family vacations since I was a kid, so it was only natural that I celebrated my marriage there as well.Tim and my wedding was a Muslim ceremony with a fusion American-Pakistani receptionThe ceremony was on the back lawn of The Kiawah Island Club at the River Course. The meal was catered by the club as well (my favorite was the mashed potato bar). We also had a bonfire and smores, which were coordinated by the club. A great part of the evening was the storyteller, Tim Lowry, who told us tales about love and romance from different cultures.

The flowers were by Tiger Lily, and the cake and chocolate mousse were done by Elaine Mincey of Elaine’s Events. My invitations and program were designed by Kim Nguyen, a childhood friend of mine. My outfit, as well as Tim’s clothes and shoes, were especially made in Pakistan, My jewelry was a collection of family heirlooms. I had a friend apply my makeup, and a stylist at the Sanctuary salon did my hair. The wedding was coordinated by Cris Bernstein, who did an amazing job.
