Heather & Justin {South Carolina Society Hall}

I am a complete sap when it comes to swoon-worthy proposals. I truly just get all weak in the knees and melt. Heather, the so, so gorgeous bride, made my day when she included the fabulous story behind the ring. TWR’ers, I will tell you, it started  with a drive with no peeking allowed, the beyond amazing setting at Angel Oak, and a beautiful hand written poem from the groom ending with a proposal…I die, so sweet. If you love the details as much as we do, make sure to read about all the sweetness below!

From the Bride…

“…Justin and I met in Aiken at the gym at the end of 2008. Our occasional hellos at the gym eventually turned into conversations that eventually turned into a date. We have been inseparable since our first date. After about a year of dating, we decided to move to Charleston together because that’s where Justin was from. I remember one day we went walking around downtown and Justin showed me all of the places that was special to him. We walked by First Baptist and he pointed out that he had spent so much time in the church growing up because he graduated from First Baptist Church School. Lucky for us, the church was setting up for a wedding so we got to have a peak inside. It was absolutely beautiful.
Fast forward two years, Justin is taking me, eyes covered – no peeking allowed, to a place I haven’t ever been in Charleston. When I finally got to open my eyes, I saw the biggest oak tree I have ever seen in my life. I immediately knew I was at Angel Oak. We walked around the tree for a bit and found a place to sit down.
When we sat down, I started asking questions…
Heather: “How old do you think this tree is?”
Justin: “I knew you would ask that…”
Then he pulled out a piece of paper and started reading me facts about the tree. After telling me the age of the tree and how it got the name Angel Oak, he started talking about when we first met three years ago and how I asked him to write me something because he had a minor in creative writing. Then he said he had never written me anything…until now. I immediately started crying because I knew what was about to happen. Justin started reading a beautiful poem about our relationship that ended with a proposal. I was so excited that I couldn’t even talk. I just shook my head while he, with shaking hands, tried to figure out which hand to put the ring on.
Immediately, I knew what church I wanted to get married at…First Baptist. I wanted to have an October wedding in Charleston so I only had about 7 months to plan everything. Lucky for me, all of the locations that I wanted were available. It was an act of God because that doesn’t ever happen here. Charleston is such a beautiful wedding destination that you have plan at least a year in advance to secure that places you want.
I didn’t have a set theme, per say, for my wedding, but I did want everything to be soft, elegant and romantic. Our colors were light pink, gray, and ivory. After I had my locations picked and the general idea of what I was trying to accomplish with the event, I started looking at other vendors. The most important part of my wedding were the photos. They are the only thing that you get to keep from your wedding. Sean and Elizabeth were a no brainer for photography. They have a very romantic style of photos, but they do an amazing job capturing the emotion of the moment. I didn’t want anything that seemed staged or fake. Now that my big day is over, my husband and I are so happy that we decided to put such a high priority on our photos. They tell a story of what happened that day and they are so, so special to us.
Our wedding day was truly magical. Charleston in October is amazing. From getting ready at the swanky, chic Studio M to walking down the aisle at one of the old Baptist Church in the South. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
