10 May Carolyn & George | Rehearsal Dinner
Carolyn, one of the gals behind the well-known Instagram account @foodintheair, was set up with George at a Bon Jovi concert in New York City thanks to her cousin, who knew him from Villanova. After a few years of dating, they found themselves at the New York Botanical Gardens train show (Carolyn says she’d been dying to go for years) beside the greenhouse lily pond. Carolyn says she was so bent on snapping the perfect shot of the pond that she didn’t really clue into what was going on—George proposing bended knee and all. After her resounding “Yes!” the pair celebrated in Greenwich Village at the restaurant where they had their first dinner out together. Carolyn, a College of Charleston grad, knew she wanted to wed at Lowndes Grove Plantation, but was stuck when it came to their rehearsal dinner-slash-welcome party location. That’s when they bumped into Bellafare’s Kristin Doggett (another CofC alum and a Big Apple wedding planner), who overheard them talking about their venue dilemma while out at another West Village Eatery. “She politely interrupted because she heard us talking about Charleston,” Carolyn explains. Kristin suggested they take a look at The Dewberry, and, you guessed it, they fell in love with the chic space immediately, and how it could accommodate their guest list of 100 for the meal (in the ballroom) and the party (in the adjoining courtyard). As Carolyn says, “It was meant to be!” With the help of George’s mother and the hotel’s event director, Candice Chuppa, the happy couple kicked off their wedding weekend in fine Lowcountry form.
